3 Months in (and another year older & wiser)
If you read my last post, you know that I closed my small office and have been seeing individual clients at Sage Yoga Bonsall when the public class schedule permits. So far, it has been a good arrangement for me and for Reyna, Owner of Sage Yoga Studios. All I have to remind myself is to keep my schedule on track (only one blooper so far).
As to age, I turn another year older today. Still feeling pretty good; teaching lots of yoga and enjoying a new puppy in our household (her name is Bonnie and, we believe, she is ‘sort of’ a border collie). Some day we may do the DNA test to find out for sure.
I taught my Fundamentals class yesterday (Friday, 9am, in Bonsall). Since everyone in class was well beyond ‘fundamental stage’, we morphed into a bit of arm balance work (vasisthasana - side plank & bakasana - crow pose). One gentleman indicated that a cue I used helped him feel more secure in bakasana. What was it, you ask? Once we were in malasana (Garland Pose with knees bent and upper arms resting on inner knees, hands placed as for down dog), I asked students to press knees into arms and arms back out into knees, creating a strengthening and stability for the following steps.
We followed up with some supine bakasana (core work) and supine revolved bakasana (more core work). A couple of them gave upright revolved bakasana a try. My purpose was just to demonstrate the value of our core in arm balances. I think too many of us believe our arms aren’t strong enough, when it may be that our core isn’t able to help because it’s a bit ‘weak’. Just a thought.
Have a great rest of your day!
